Liberty

There are a lot of trends among women, especially Christian women, that I have a hard time getting behind. Yes, I use essential oils - but sparingly. Yes, I’ve read Rachel Hollis  - I like her and Lauren Daigle, don’t come at me. I have thoughts on self-care but we don’t have the time for that right now. But one trend that I think is ridiculous but also can’t fight is: word of the year. Part of me is like - surely God has more than one thing for a year but on the flip side I do think He’s been working in my life in seasons. So maybe this isn’t my word of the year as much as it is my word for this season. But because there’s no hashtag for #wordoftheseason or if there it is - it’s not as trendy, we’re going with #wordoftheyear.

So - my word for 2019 is: liberty.

Webster defines liberty as “the quality or state of being free.”

I chose liberty because after last year and going through Genesis - I feel like I’ve been set free from things that were holding back from the life God has for me. I can live in the freedom that Jesus won for me on the cross. I have been liberated from my sins and also from fears that held me in bondage.

2019 is all about stepping boldly and courageously into God’s plans.

Not only that but I want to help others know this same freedom. I want to empower people to forget about social norms and to run fully into what God is calling them to. Because I want to boldly proclaim the Gospel - because folks - that’s where freedom comes from.

Yes, healthy boundaries are key. And yes, I can’t wait to say no more. And yes, science is important. But there is nothing more powerful than the Holy Spirit working in your life and the saving power of Christ’s death and resurrection. I want people to know that freedom that comes from letting Him work in your life.

In addition to that I want to encourage us all to stop that comparison game and be set free from all these ridiculous expectations that social media, society, and even our churches can put on us.
For example: You don’t have to be married to get a house. Also singleness is a GIFT and should be viewed as one. Women are made in God’s image and are therefore NOT LESS THAN MEN.

But I’m also passionate about the practical liberties of those in slavery. Participating in Dressember and sharing about human trafficking at church has inspired and encouraged me to keep fighting for those in bondage.

So liberty. It’s a big one and it encompasses a lot. But it also synthesizes where I’m at right now.

2019 is going to be a ride and I can’t wait.
