“Numbers Do Not Win a Battle.”

I believe that God still speaks to us. I believe that He speaks to us through His word, through other people, and sometimes He speaks to me through the randomest things.

Tonight I was at a prayer and worship night with my community group and God reminded me of two different scenes from two different movies. I wasn’t given the opportunity to share them - God was really moving and I’m not one to force myself into sharing when everyone else is talking - and I decided that was okay. Because I can share them here. Because I think what God was speaking goes beyond our community group - its a reminder for everyone.

I was reminded first of the scene from The Chronicles of Narnia - where they’re preparing for battle and the numbers are stacked against them and Peter gets told, “Numbers do not win a battle.” Peter can only see what’s in front of him.

I was then reminded of the scene from The Return of the King where Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli approach the corsairs and they are laughed at because the corsairs can’t see the Army of the Dead.

I felt like God was reminding me that we can often feel like we’re alone. We see this army we can’t defeat because we’re not strong enough on our own. We forget that we have the God of angel armies on our side. We think and see like Peter and the corsairs but the reality is we have the God of the universe on our side. When we go out to bring the Gospel (especially to campus like my community group is focusing on this year) we need to submit to God and learn to see situations the way that He sees them. We need to rely on Him and trust Him to show up. Because He will.

After all, it’s His mission we’re on. We’re His kids - He won’t leave us abandoned.

So let’s ask Him to show us things the way He sees them. Let’s ask Him to pour His Spirit out on us so we can be empowered to the works that He has called us to. And then let’s go out there and do that work with enthusiasm and joy because even when things seem scary and impossible - we have confidence that God will provide a way. His promises are always true.
