IN THE WAITING

Insta Diaries #3

If you follow me on Instagram - you'll know that I sometimes post mini-blogs in my captions. It's usually whatever I'm feeling in that moment that is bursting to be shared. They aren't always grammatically correct or theologically researched but they're 100% how I feel in that moment.

This morning while reading in 1 John, I was reminded of The Mumford and Sons song, Awake My Soul, and the line that says, “In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die. Where you invest your love, you invest your life.” And I felt properly convicted that I haven’t been investing my love in the things I need to.

I’ve been pouring my love into people rather than Jesus and so when they hurt me - it feels like a much deeper blow than it needs to be. Because when we invest our love in Jesus - He helps us see people in their proper light: as people we should love but not worship.

So when people fail us - because our worth or identity or whatever isn’t based on them - we can love them in return instead of responding in fear, anger or hurt. Because ultimately we are called to love people the way God loves them and that’s not always the way we want to love them.

Sometimes that means loving those who hurt us or sometimes it means being content with a relationship not going where you wanted it to go. Because sometimes loving people the way God does - means letting them go and flourish in Him without you.

Maybe none of that is encouraging. Sorry bout that. But I guess my overall thought is:
1. Listen to Mumford and Sons.
2. Invest your love into Jesus. He’s not gonna fail you.
3. Remember to love like Jesus and not the way you want to love - whether that’s befriending someone that’s a challenge or letting someone go.

Love God enough to let Him win over your emotions. :).
